Jazz Piano Tutorial: “Red Clay Solo Changes,” Part 1

';

In this jazz piano lesson, we’ll look at the solo changes to Freddie Hubbard’s “Red Clay,” which Hubbard recorded on his 1970 album of the same name.

We’ll go over the basic harmony and then look at how to map out the guide tones (3rds and 7ths) for each chord. We’ll combine the guide tones with a simple left-hand bass line built on the roots of each chord.
