Jake Smolowe is a jazz pianist, composer, arranger and film-scorer with a propensity for harmonic and rhythmic exploration. He grew up in Menlo Park, CA with a musically inclined family. His father, Dr. John Smolowe, played bass in a college rock band; his mother, Dr. Joellen Werne, played oboe growing up; and his sister Laura developed into a talented and versatile vocalist, performing in a capella groups and musical theater productions through college. All three took piano lessons to a point. Jake started studying piano at age four and began composing soon after; five years later he encountered jazz and decided to dedicate his life to studying and performing America's music.
